Opposition Slams Centre’s Move to Table Multiple Bills in Lok Sabha, Calls It ‘Desperate Diversion’

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi posted on X, “The bills of Home Minister Amit Shah are nothing but a desperate attempt to divert public attention from the blistering Vote Adhikar Yatra of Shri Rahul Gandhi. First CSDS–BJP IT cell drama, and now these bills. Clearly, the winds of change are blowing in Bihar.”

Opposition MPs on Wednesday criticised the government’s decision to introduce several bills in the Lok Sabha, alleging it was a “desperate attempt” to divert attention from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s ongoing Vote Adhikar Yatra.

Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra and Congress MP Abhishek Singhvi raised strong objections to the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025, which proposes the removal of a Union or State Minister detained for at least 30 days on charges of corruption or serious offences.

“Opposition predictions come true—Constitution being changed by BJP with only 240 MPs. New bill bypasses both federal structure and judiciary—Union govt can use ED/CBI to arrest elected opposition CMs on fake charges and sack them without proven guilty by a court,” Moitra said.

Singhvi echoed the concern, calling it the “best way to destabilise opposition.” He wrote, “Arrests of opposition leaders are rampant. This law removes incumbent CMs immediately upon arrest. Despite being unable to defeat them electorally, the government wants to remove them by arbitrary arrests. And no ruling party CM is ever touched!”

According to the Lok Sabha’s List of Business, Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to introduce the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025, the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019. These will be referred to a Joint Committee of Parliament.

The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025, specifically proposes provisions to remove a Chief Minister or Minister if arrested or detained on serious criminal charges, arguing that such situations undermine “constitutional morality and good governance.”

In addition, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will table the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, aimed at prohibiting online money games across state and foreign jurisdictions, including their operation, promotion, and advertisement.
