Union Ministers of State Nityanand Rai and Sanjay Seth on Tuesday congratulated CP Radhakrishnan on his election as Vice President, calling the victory both significant and well-deserved.

Speaking to ANI, Rai praised the NDA leadership for fielding a strong candidate and noted that the outcome reflected bipartisan support. “Many congratulations to the Vice President. The Prime Minister and the NDA’s central leadership have chosen a deserving person as the Vice Presidential candidate, and today a splendid victory has been achieved. Today’s result shows that when the right person is chosen, even party lines are crossed to support him,” he said.

MoS Sanjay Seth echoed this sentiment, highlighting Jharkhand’s connection to national leaders. “It is the fortune of the people of Jharkhand that the country’s President, Droupadi Murmu, was once our Governor, and now CP Radhakrishnan, who also served as our Governor, has become the Vice President. This is a very big victory. The opposition wants to question everything, but they have nothing concrete,” he said.

Backed by the NDA, Radhakrishnan secured 452 first-preference votes, defeating INDIA bloc nominee Justice B Sudershan Reddy, who received 300. Fifteen votes were declared invalid, while 13 MPs abstained. With 98.20 percent turnout, 767 of the 781 MPs cast their votes.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Union Ministers Kiren Rijiju, Pralhad Joshi and JP Nadda, met Radhakrishnan in the capital to extend congratulations. The Vice President’s post had been vacant since July 21, 2025, following Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation due to health reasons.

Born on October 20, 1957, in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan has held several gubernatorial posts, including in Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Telangana, and Puducherry, and was twice elected as MP from Coimbatore.
