IndiGo Airlines on Tuesday suspended all flights to and from Kathmandu until 12:00 pm, citing the closure of Kathmandu Airport due to ongoing Gen Z protests in Nepal. The airline also issued a travel advisory, offering passengers options to reschedule or claim refunds.

“All flights to and from Kathmandu stand cancelled until 1200 hrs on September 10. If your travel plans are impacted, you may opt for an alternate flight or claim a refund through our website,” IndiGo said in its statement.

As an immediate relief measure, IndiGo extended waivers on rescheduling and cancellations for passengers travelling to or from Kathmandu until September 12, applicable to bookings made on or before September 9. The airline added that its teams were closely monitoring the situation and would provide timely updates once operations resume.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security after returning from an aerial survey of flood-hit areas in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. Expressing grief on social media platform X, Modi described the violence in Nepal as “heart-rending,” noting the loss of many young lives.

“The stability, peace and prosperity of Nepal are of utmost importance to us. I humbly appeal to all my brothers and sisters in Nepal to support peace,” Modi said.

Nepal has been gripped by escalating unrest following the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Over the past two days, Gen Z-led demonstrations have turned violent, leaving at least 19 people dead and more than 500 injured. Protesters clashed with security forces around the Federal Parliament and torched several government buildings, including the Parliament itself.
