Mauritius’ Minister of Financial Services and Economic Planning, Jyoti Jetun, on Wednesday praised India’s rapid economic growth and strong global role under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, calling it an example of action-driven governance.

“India’s leadership is something not to be spoken about, but to be seen in action. We don’t have to put it in words to see the economic development that has happened. The ‘Viksit Bharat Abhiyaan’ is a very ambitious plan that is being executed, not just left on paper — this is only possible with strong leadership,” Jetun said in an exclusive interview with ANI.

Highlighting India’s growing role in the global economy, she added, “India is a very important market for Mauritius and for the world. It is one of the fastest-growing economies and is projected to become the third-largest globally. This creates immense opportunities in sectors like FinTech, IT, healthcare, health sciences, ocean economy, and renewable energy, where India has already made significant investments.”

Jetun also recalled the historic cultural and ancestral ties between the two nations, with most Mauritians tracing their roots to India. “Our bond is very deep-rooted — ancestral, cultural, and linguistic. In recent years, we have been working to strengthen our economic partnership alongside this heritage,” she said.

She expressed pride over PM Modi’s recent visit to Mauritius as Chief Guest for its Independence Day celebrations, noting that he was the first foreign leader to visit after the formation of their new government. Looking ahead, she confirmed that the Mauritian Prime Minister is expected to visit India soon to further enhance cooperation.

As India celebrates Ganesh Chaturthi, Jetun noted that Mauritians too mark Indian festivals with enthusiasm. “Ganesh Chaturthi, Shivratri, Diwali, Ugadi — all Indian festivals are celebrated with great fervour in our country,” she said.

The India–Mauritius partnership, built on trust and shared values, continues to expand through collaborations in maritime security, development partnerships, technical assistance, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people ties, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
