A District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawan was killed and three others injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast triggered by Naxalites in Bijapur district’s National Park area on Monday morning, police said.

IG Bastar P Sundarraj confirmed that the blast occurred during an anti-Maoist operation. The martyred jawan was identified as Dinesh Nag, while the injured personnel, who are said to be stable, have been provided first aid and are being shifted for further treatment.

Authorities said detailed information will be shared once the ongoing operation concludes.

The incident comes just days after security forces achieved a significant breakthrough in Chhattisgarh’s Maoist belt. On August 13, a joint operation by the Chhattisgarh Police, DRG, and ITBP neutralised two top Naxal commanders—Vijay Reddy, a member of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee carrying a ₹90 lakh bounty, and Lokesh Salame, RKB division secretary with a reward of ₹26 lakh.

Officials described the encounter as a major setback to Naxal operations in the Dandakaranya region and along the Rajnandgaon-Kanker border. Weapons and Maoist-related materials were also recovered during the operation.
