Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences following a tragic stampede that occurred during their IPL 2025 victory celebrations near Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday. The incident claimed 11 lives and left 33 others injured.

Thousands of fans had gathered outside the stadium to catch a glimpse of their favourite players after RCB’s historic IPL title win. In a statement, RCB said, “We are deeply anguished by the unfortunate incidents that have come to light through media reports regarding public gatherings all over Bengaluru in anticipation of the team’s arrival this afternoon. The safety and well-being of everyone is of utmost importance to us.”

RCB added that upon learning of the incident, they promptly adjusted their schedule in consultation with local authorities and urged fans to stay safe. “RCB mourns the tragic loss of lives and extends our heartfelt condolences to the affected families,” the statement said.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed the death toll and announced compensation and support measures. “A major tragedy occurred during the victory celebrations near Chinnaswamy Stadium. The government has announced a compensation of ₹10 lakh to the families of the deceased. Free treatment will be provided to the injured,” the CM said, calling the incident deeply unfortunate.

The celebrations followed RCB’s landmark IPL title win—their first in 18 years—against Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. The final saw RCB posting 190/9, with key contributions from Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and Jitesh Sharma. Punjab Kings fell just short, finishing at 184/7, despite a late onslaught by Shashank Singh.

While the win brought jubilation to RCB fans across the country, the joy has been overshadowed by the tragic loss of life in Bengaluru.
