BJP leader and former Union Minister V Muraleedharan called for a global consensus against terrorism, describing the recently concluded all-party parliamentary delegation’s visit to Egypt as “very productive and meaningful.”
Speaking from Cairo, the final stop of the four-nation tour, Muraleedharan said the delegation received strong international support for India’s stance on terrorism following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians on April 22.
“I found the visit very productive and meaningful. There was a clear consensus in support of India, particularly on the issue of terrorism. Everyone we met condemned the attack and backed India’s counter-terror efforts,” he told ANI.
He stressed the need for a coordinated global initiative to combat terrorism “in all its forms and manifestations.”
The multi-party delegation, led by NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) MP Supriya Sule, visited South Africa, Ethiopia, Qatar, and Egypt as part of India’s diplomatic outreach under Operation Sindoor, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in response to the April 22 attack.
In Cairo, the group held high-level meetings, including a constructive dialogue with Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, who condemned the Pahalgam attack and reaffirmed Egypt’s solidarity with India.
“The Foreign Minister assured us that Egypt stands with India and supports peace and counter-terrorism efforts,” said Supriya Sule.
She emphasized that the delegation’s mission was to unite as Indians across party lines and present a fact-based narrative amid rising misinformation and disinformation on social media.
“We’ve come here not just as MPs, but as Indians. Social media has changed the information landscape — some of it is real, some of it deepfake. That’s why this global outreach was important,” she said.
Sule also revealed that seven groups of MPs were formed under the Prime Minister’s direction and sent to multiple nations over the past 10 days.
During their Cairo leg, the delegation also paid floral tributes at the Heliopolis War Memorial, honouring Indian soldiers who laid down their lives during World War I and II.
Besides Sule and Muraleedharan, the delegation included Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Vikramjeet Singh Sahney, Manish Tewari, Anurag Singh Thakur, Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, Anand Sharma, and Syed Akbaruddin.
The visit aimed to bolster international understanding of India’s anti-terror position, strengthen diplomatic ties, and reinforce India’s commitment to peace and global cooperation.
