The Border Security Force (BSF) successfully foiled a major infiltration attempt along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district late on Thursday night, intensifying India’s ongoing security operations amid rising hostilities with Pakistan.

The infiltration bid occurred around 11:00 p.m. on May 8. Confirming the development, BSF Jammu posted on X, “At around 2300 hours on 8 May 2025, BSF foiled a major infiltration bid at the International Boundary in Samba district, J&K.”

This incident adds to a series of recent security threats along the border. Defence sources earlier reported that the Indian Army intercepted and shot down two Pakistani drones in the Naushera sector of Jammu and Kashmir during an exchange of heavy artillery fire with Pakistani forces.

The Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff also stated that Pakistan attempted to target multiple military stations near the International Border—specifically in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur—using missiles and drones. These threats were neutralised by the Indian Armed Forces using both kinetic and non-kinetic means, with no casualties reported.

“Military Stations of Jammu, Pathankot and Udhampur in proximity to the International Boundary, in Jammu and Kashmir targeted by Pakistan using missiles and drones. No losses. Threat neutralised by Indian Armed Forces as per SoP,” the Defence Staff said in a post on X.

In response to the escalating threats, Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened a high-level security meeting with the Director Generals of all border guarding forces on Thursday. The meeting focused on reviewing preparedness following a wave of drone and missile attacks from Pakistan targeting regions such as Satwari, Samba, RS Pura, Arnia (Jammu & Kashmir), and Jaisalmer (Rajasthan). All hostile projectiles were successfully intercepted by Indian air defence units, preventing major damage.

Shah also conducted a separate review of airport security across the nation with the Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), as India remains on heightened alert at key infrastructure points.

These developments come in the wake of India’s precision military campaign, Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7. The operation involved missile strikes on nine terror infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), in retaliation for the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which killed 28 civilians.

Indian officials have reaffirmed that any further provocations or attacks on military assets will be met with a decisive and proportionate response, underscoring the country’s firm stance on national security.
